Only a few generations ago, our ancestors were living through unimaginable circumstances and facing them with courage, resourcefulness and humour. We’ve got a lot to learn from the wartime generation. So this month we’re saluting our feisty forebears on the Homefront, with the Make Do and Mend Fair.
Pull on your best tea dress and nylons/Allies uniform/demob suit and trilby and head for the Vintage Village to enjoy 40s-style crooners Paul Harper and Don Gentile serenading us with the big hits of the day, along with some genuine wartime military and civilian vehicles courtesy of the North West Military Vehicle Trust.
Suggested dress code: 1940s, naturally!
UPDATE! We will be awarding a prize to the Best Dressed Person (male or female) in a 1940s ensemble at 2.30pm-ish.
And, of course, there will be a whole platoon of top quality specialist vintage traders offering vintage clothing and accessories for ladies and gentlemen, costume jewellery, homeware, decorative items, textiles, small furniture, luggage, toys, records, books, ephemera, collectables and curiosities. Re-using old items - in the spirit of Make Do and Mend - is the very essence of vintage!
Refreshments available from Oak Tree Café and the mega-marvellous, multi-award-winning Stuart Thornley Cake Design.
Kindly let us know you’re coming on our Facebook event page!
Singer Don Gentile, who took his stage name from the famous USAAF WW2 fighter ace.
