There’s something about past visions of the future, whether it’s the earnest efforts of mid-century architects to create bold, innovative buildings for all, or the 1960s Mod generation with their endless quest for the Now and the New (preferably before everyone else). Well, we’re in their future, and we still think they’re cool!
Whether you’re a Modernist or a Mod, or just an interested observer, there should be something to delight you at this Sunday’s Vintage Village fair, including:
★ The Manchester Modernist Society presenting their wares, including their internationally acclaimed periodical, The Modernist, and lots of highly desirable Modernist merch. Their top quality, limited edition enamel badges are seen on all the best lapels. Sign up as a member to support their mission and enjoy numerous fascinating tours and events throughout the year - we heartily recommend it!
★ A free exhibition of Stephen Marland’s compelling photographs of Modernist architecture in Greater Manchester, held at 7 Park Street - the café in 20th Century Stores.
★ Two live performances by Carl Morris, singer/songwriter/guitarist and solo performer of Mod anthems/60s Rock and Soul/Britpop and classic Indie tunes. Performance times: 11.30sih and 1.30ish.
★ DJ “Little Bren” spinning classic Mod/Northern Soul tunes.
★ There will be some Scooter Clubs in attendance, with their beautiful classic Vespas and Lambrettas.
★ And there’s a trophy for the Best Scooter of the Day, judged by Mike Leicester and Gaz Mack who have been restoring scooters for over 40 years. Trophy presentation at 2.30pm.
You can also expect to see an enchanting plethora of quality vintage goods for ladies, gentlemen and the home, including swanky clothing, accessories and jewellery, stylish homeware, decorative items, textiles, luggage and small furniture, alluring toys, books, posters, ephemera and collectables, and all sorts of unpredictable stuff we can’t possibly predict!
There’s super tasty Tex/Mex dishes from Spicy Jack Deli, fine coffee from Cafelito, and lots of cakey treats from Stuart Thornley Cake Design for afters.
