What do Joy Division, Neil Sedaka, John Cooper Clarke and St Winifred’s School Choir have in common? They all recorded at Strawberry Recording Studios right here in Stockport!
Established in October 1967 by members of 10CC, Strawberry Recording Studios offered world-class recording facilities and welcomed a diverse range of musicians over its 26 years of existence.
We’re incredibly excited to announce that Peter Wadsworth, creator of the excellent Strawberry Recording Studios website and Facebook page, will be giving a presentation about the fascinating history of this iconic studio - with pictures and music, quite naturally! - at Seven Miles Out. He will be happy to take questions after his show, and is also very keen to hear your memories of the place. Or maybe you have some photos or memorabilia - bring them along! Peter's presentation is from 1.00pm to 2.00pm.
Seven Miles Out will also be showing archive footage of Strawberry Studios, and spinning original vinyl Strawberry Studios recordings all day.
Incidentally, there is also a fascinating display of original Strawberry artefacts at the nearby Stockport Story Museum, right next to the market hall.
AND we will be presenting the winners of the Visitors’ Vote for your favourite traders at 2.30pm outside in the food court area (weather permitting, otherwise we'll squeeze in inside the hall).
Optional dress code: groovy late 1960s-70s fashions, the more far out the better! Take some style tips from Vix of Kinky Melon’s Retro Studios if you need some inspiration.
We've got a special playlist of tunes created at Strawberry Recording Studios to soundtrack your shopping as you stroll around up to 70 stalls of top quality vintage items for ladies, gents and the home, and there's some delectable refreshments from Lord of the Pies, newcomers to VV Osaka Jo’s with some enticing Japanese dishes, and Stuart Thornley Cake Design for all your sweet treat needs, AND Cafelito's dinky little coffee van.
