We’re Go-Going crazy for . . .
The Vintage Village Toggery Fair!

Where: Stockport Covered Market Hall, SK1 1EU.
How much: £2.00 entry, £1.50 concessions, under 12s FREE!
Back in the 1960s, The Toggery was the hottest menswear shop for miles around. Offering everything from bespoke suits in the finest mohair - or even leather! - to Annello & Davide Beatle boots, it was the favoured supplier of stage gear to many of the leading bands and pop stars of the time, including the Beatles in their early days. Read more about it here.
We can’t let this long lost Stockport landmark be forgotten, so we’re dedicating this month’s fair to The Toggery, with the emphasis on all things groovy 1960s and Mod.
Optional dress code - Mod!
UPDATE! FREE entry if you bring your classic scooter along!
As well as the spectacular array of covetable authentic vintage clothing and accessories for ladies and gents, costume jewellery, homeware, decorative items, furniture, luggage, textiles, toys, collectables and curiosities you have come to expect from VV, we also have:
★ Andy of Dabberdecades playing the pick of dance-worthy 60s soul and Northern Soul!
★ And, naturally, the return of Dabberdecades, supreme specialists in top name 1960s fashions such as Mary Quant, Biba, Dollyrockers and much more. Mod gentlemen are amply catered for too!
★ We’re delighted to welcome Browne’s Temperance Bar, serving nostalgic, old-time cordials and sweets from vintage steamer trunks.
★ Another exciting street vendor makes their VV debut this Sunday - Wrapscallion! See their droolsome menu below.
There’s also . . .
Groovy Movie Matinée Double Feature
Presented by Stockport Market
In our pop-up cinema, downstairs in the Produce Hall
11.00am The Knack … and How to Get It (1965) Certificate 15.
Starring Rita Tushingham, Ray Brooks, Michael Crawford.
Directed by Richard Lester directly after he wrapped the Beatles’ Hard Day’s Night, this wacky comedy of manners is very much of its time. You’ll either find it hilarious, or excruciating (or a bit of both!), but it’s full of juicy period detail and fashions. Watch out for fleeting movie-debut appearances by Jane Birkin (girl on motorbike), Charlotte Rampling (water skier) and Jacqueline Bisset (not sure what she does!) who were all extras.
12.30pm Up the Junction (1968) Certificate 12.
Starring Dennis Waterman, Suzy Kendall and Maureen Lipman.
Posh Chelsea girl Polly tires of her privileged life and slums it in Battersea working in a chocolate factory. Another 1960s time capsule, in the gritty ‘kitchen sink’ tradition, soundtracked by Manfred Mann. Lots more 1960s fashions, scooters and locations, only this time in wide-screen full colour!
You’ll need fortifying after all that energetic vintage browsing, and we’ve got some sumptuous food'n'drink treats lined up for you!
Not only do we have the multi-awarding winning Lord of the Pies with their handmade gourmet British pies, but there’s also Wrapscallion offering freshly prepared wraps/quesadillas with seriously tempting fillings.
Browne’s Temperance Bar has a range of refreshing old-time cordials and Shave Ices to cool you in the Stockport summer heat! Kandoo Mobile Coffee can cover all your espresso-based coffee requirements, and there’s the equally multi-awarding winning Stuart Thornley Cake Design to astonish you with his inventive range of sweet delicacies.
