![]() ![]() The Produce Hall was built in 1851 of Yorkshire stone as a venue for the sale of fresh farm produce. It was also the venue, for 38 years, for Stockport's Free Library, which was situated on the first floor (that's where The Room at the Top is!) The balcony was used for election speeches and Royal proclamations up until 1910, when George V was proclaimed King. This Grade II listed building is a well-known local landmark and was thoroughly spruced up with a £1 million refurbishment in 2001, which transformed the first floor into an airy mezzanine, flooded with natural light from skylights in the original beamed roof.
